In this Audio Visual Design project, the inspiration of music is Boléro by Joseph-Maurice Ravel (March 7, 1875 – December 28, 1937) , one of his most famous musical compositions. This one-movement orchestral piece really fascinated me by its composition.
The composition has a very simple structure - it consists almost entirely of one melody and one counter-melody, repeated over and over again, orchestrated differently each time and gradually thicker and louder until the whole orchestra is playing at the very end.
The concept for design is using geometric shapes as patterns and overlaps again and again reflecting the structure of Boléro. Color might be applied through the process when using semi-transparent fabric and different color’s overlapping would create a new color in overlapped part. It is also reflect Boléro composition, when different instruments join the melody it give the whole music a different feeling and make the main melody stronger and stronger.
